£88.4 million will be allocated to local authorities for 2025/26 to deliver support for unpaid carers (including young carers).
Last year we discovered through a series of Freedom of Information requests that not all councils were able to account for how the Carers Act Funding for the previous financial year had been spent.
We therefore welcome the letter sent to COSLA by the Minister for Social Care, Maree Todd this week. The letter reminds councils that the Carers Act Funding is intended to support adult and young carers and should be used to enhance carer support locally.
You can read the letter from the Minister to COSLA in full here.
In 2025/26 £88.4m of Carers Act Funding will be allocated to local authorities to support unpaid carers. The table below provides a breakdown of the allocation for each local authority.
