People are being encouraged to share their views on any changes that they would like to see made to the eligibility criteria for the Adult Disability Payment mobility element.

Adult Disability Payment, delivered by Social Security Scotland, was launched in August 2022 to replace the UK Government’s Personal Independence Payment (PIP). It provides financial support to people aged between 16 and state pension age who are disabled, have a long-term health condition or a terminal illness. The mobility element, one of two components to the payment, supports people who have difficulties moving around or planning and following journeys.

The eligibility rules for Adult Disability Payment have remained largely the same as under PIP to avoid having two sets of eligibility criteria in Scotland before completing the transfer of people’s payments from the UK Government to Social Security Scotland by 2025. However, Scottish Government are now seeking views on the mobility component of Adult Disability Payment and whether some aspects of it should be changed.

The consultation, focusing on the mobility element, will run for 12 weeks and will close on 25 April. You can submit your views in writing or by attending one of the engagement events.

Further information about the consultation and how to have your views heard, including details of engagement events can be found here.
